India won the toss and chose to bowl first against the West Indies in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Super Eights match at Eden Gardens. With South Africa’s significant win over the West Indies, India now needs to win both remaining games to advance. The match against the West Indies has turned into a virtual quarter-final for India.
India holds a strong T20I record at Eden Gardens, unbeaten since 2016, except for a loss to England in 2011. The team has won all four T20Is against the West Indies at this venue. The West Indies, however, have fond memories at Eden Gardens, winning the T20 World Cup title here in 2016.
India’s captain, Suryakumar Yadav, chose to bowl first, citing the chasing advantage at the ground. On the other side, Windies captain Shai Hope emphasized the importance of consistency and labeled the match as a do-or-die game. Akeal Hosein replaced Brandon King in the West Indies’ playing XI.
