The Sports Ministry confirmed that India will uphold the ban on bilateral sporting engagements with Pakistan. However, Pakistani players and teams will still be allowed to participate in multilateral events held in India. The ministry emphasized that Indian teams will not compete in Pakistan, and vice versa, for bilateral sports events.
In terms of international and multilateral competitions, India will adhere to the regulations of global sports bodies and prioritize the interests of its athletes. The ministry highlighted India’s growing reputation as a reliable host for international sports events. India is set to host various major tournaments, including the Commonwealth Games in 2030 and the ICC Champions Trophy in 2029.
Looking ahead, India has ambitious plans to host significant sporting events like the Men’s ODI World Cup in 2031 and potentially the Asian Games in 2038. The ministry aims to streamline visa procedures for athletes, technical staff, and international sports officials to enhance India’s appeal as a top destination for hosting sports events.
To bolster India’s status as a sought-after venue for international sports competitions, the ministry will simplify visa processes for sportspersons, team officials, technical personnel, and officials of International Sports Governing Bodies. Special provisions, such as multi-entry visas for up to five years, will be granted to facilitate their seamless entry and movement within the country.
