India is set to host the 11th BRICS Energy Ministers’ Meeting on June 25–26 in Gurugram, as part of its BRICS Chairship 2026. The meeting aims to enhance cooperation among BRICS member countries on energy security, sustainability, and innovation.
Under the theme “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability (BRICS),” India’s Chairship focuses on the theme “Energy for All,” aligning with BRICS nations’ commitment to universal energy access. BRICS comprises countries like Brazil, China, Russia, and South Africa, representing nearly half of the world’s population and 40% of global GDP.
The meeting comes at a crucial time when countries worldwide are striving to balance energy security, affordability, and sustainability amidst challenges like climate change and technological advancements. India’s sustainable development goals align with the BRICS Energy Agenda, emphasizing energy security, sustainability, and innovation.
India, as the world’s third-largest producer and consumer of electricity, prioritizes secure, affordable, and sustainable energy to achieve its Viksit Bharat 2047 vision. The country has made significant progress in renewable energy, expanding solar power capacity, deploying smart meters, and aiming for substantial energy storage capacity by 2032.
India has also focused on strengthening its power transmission and distribution infrastructure, expanding its national transmission network, and promoting renewable energy integration. Noteworthy advancements include achievements in the biofuels sector, such as ethanol blending and the introduction of high-ethanol fuel blends.
As a key advocate for clean energy cooperation globally, India has spearheaded initiatives like the International Solar Alliance and the Global Biofuels Alliance. In its role as Chair, India aims to advance the Global South’s priorities and foster cooperation on energy security, innovation, and sustainable development.
The BRICS Energy Ministers’ Meeting is expected to reinforce cooperation among member countries on energy security, innovation, and sustainable development, promoting secure, affordable, and future-ready energy systems.
