India is set to tour Sri Lanka in August 2026 for a two-match Test series as part of the ongoing ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-2027 cycle. The first Test will take place at the Galle International Cricket Stadium from August 15 to 19, followed by the second Test at the Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo from August 23 to 27, with both matches starting at 10 am local time.
This series is crucial for both teams as they aim to improve their standings in the WTC points table. Currently, India, led by Shubman Gill, holds the fifth position with a points percentage (PCT) of 48.15 after nine matches, while Sri Lanka is in sixth place with a PCT of 44.44.
A victory in this series will be significant for either team in their quest for a top-two finish and a spot in the final. This tour marks India’s return to Sri Lanka for Test matches after their successful clean sweep in 2017 under the leadership of Virat Kohli.
The Test series against India will kick off after the conclusion of the Lanka Premier League on August 8. Although there were discussions about a three-match T20I series between the two nations to support relief efforts after Cyclone Ditwah, no official confirmation has been provided by Sri Lanka Cricket.
India A, led by Dhruv Jurel, is currently in Sri Lanka for a red-ball shadow tour, with the second four-day match underway following a draw in the first game.
