External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar highlighted the special historical ties between India and Trinidad and Tobago ahead of his official visit to the dual island nation. Jaishankar emphasized the evolution of their relationship from people movement to a partnership of purpose, stressing the need for these ties to strengthen both countries in today’s uncertain global landscape.
During his visit, Jaishankar will engage in bilateral discussions with Trinidad and Tobago’s Prime Minister Kamla Persad Bissessar, as well as other key officials. The visit aims to solidify memoranda of understanding established during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit in 2025, enhancing cooperation between the two nations.
Trinidad and Tobago’s Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs, Sean Sobers, shared details of Jaishankar’s visit, highlighting the significance of the exchanges and the ceremonial events planned. The visit includes the signing of additional MoUs and a symbolic gesture of providing laptops to children, showcasing the commitment to mutual development.
Jaishankar’s itinerary also includes visits to significant sites in Trinidad and Tobago, such as Nelson Island and the Bertrand Castle Coover at the Namdevco site. These visits underscore the focus on enhancing cooperation in various sectors, including agriculture and technology.
