In a review of the 12-year tenure of the Narendra Modi-led government, Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal announced the upcoming implementation of the India-United Kingdom (UK) Free Trade Agreement (FTA) on July 15. Goyal highlighted India’s transition to a self-reliant global power under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership amid global disruptions like the Covid-19 pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine war.
State Co-Media Chief Omprakash Chauhan and State Spokesperson Pankaj Modi were present at the press conference where Goyal emphasized that PM Modi’s strategic decisions have turned crises into economic opportunities. He mentioned that India has signed nine historic FTAs under Modi’s leadership, providing access to 38 developed countries and creating new markets and trade avenues for Indian entrepreneurs, farmers, fishermen, and women business owners.
Goyal pointed out the positive outcomes expected for the Indian economy from PM Modi’s recent discussions in France and the upcoming implementation of the India-UK FTA. He also highlighted the global recognition of PM Modi with 33 nations honoring him with their highest civilian honors, including countries with which India historically had distant diplomatic relations.
The Union Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to delivering public welfare schemes without discrimination, supported by transparent digital technology. He outlined significant achievements in social security and infrastructure, such as the Jan Dhan Yojana opening over 55 crore bank accounts, providing free rations to more than 81 crore citizens during the pandemic, issuing 60 crore health cards under the Ayushman Bharat scheme, and delivering more than four crore permanent houses under the PM Awas Yojana.
Goyal concluded by emphasizing the collective goal of 140 crore citizens to build a developed India by 2047 and highlighted the government’s efforts in strengthening internal security and integrating youth from former Maoist-affected regions into the national mainstream.
