Artificial intelligence (AI) is no longer a distant opportunity for India but a pressing strategic challenge, emphasized Anupam Govil, Chief Tech and AI Evangelist at Avasant. India’s role in the tech industry has evolved significantly due to automation and AI, shifting away from traditional labor-centric models. Govil highlighted AI’s potential to revolutionize various sectors in India, including education, healthcare, and energy.

With global competition intensifying, Govil likened the current AI landscape to a race for technological supremacy, emphasizing the need for countries to invest in infrastructure to support AI development. He stressed the importance of India enhancing its talent pool and infrastructure to remain competitive in the AI race. Govil emphasized the significance of leveraging AI to address real-world challenges efficiently and cost-effectively on a large scale.

Collaboration with the United States was also discussed, with Govil acknowledging the role of American firms in India’s AI ecosystem. While recognizing the need for cooperation on standards and safeguards, Govil highlighted the importance of India’s self-reliance in shaping its AI future. He also noted the increasing involvement of the Indian diaspora in contributing to India’s AI growth, foreseeing a surge in entrepreneurship and investment in the country.
