India expressed its delight at the smooth conduct of elections in Nepal, extending congratulations to Prime Minister Sushila Karki and the nation for their democratic participation. The Ministry of External Affairs praised the successful polls amid challenging circumstances and affirmed India’s commitment to supporting Nepal’s peace and progress. The voter turnout in Nepal’s parliamentary elections was reported to be around 60%, marking a relatively lower participation compared to previous elections.
Acting Chief Election Commissioner Ram Prasad Bhandari disclosed that the voter turnout estimate was based on initial reports and emphasized the peaceful conduct of the elections. Despite a few minor disruptions, both national and international observers noted the overall peaceful environment during the voting process. The Election Commission announced that the vote counting process would commence promptly after the secure collection of ballot boxes, with special arrangements made for transporting ballot boxes from remote areas by helicopter.
The elections in Nepal were held ahead of schedule due to recent political developments, resulting in the formation of an interim government led by Prime Minister Sushila Karki. Over 18.9 million eligible voters, including a significant number of newly registered Gen-Z voters, participated in the elections, showcasing increased youth engagement in the democratic process. The polls, conducted at numerous polling centers with thousands of candidates contesting under different systems, marked a significant step towards shaping Nepal’s political landscape for the future.
