India’s 10m Air Rifle Mixed Team, consisting of Shambhavi Kshirsagar and Divyanshu Dewangan, set a junior world record score of 499.9 to clinch the gold at the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) Junior World Cup in Cairo, Egypt. The duo had earlier topped the qualification round with a combined score of 632.0. Chinese Taipei’s Tsai Chieh-Ying and Chen You-An secured silver with 498.3, while the French pair of Tifenn Pomes and Gaspard Lesieur claimed bronze with 434.4.
In the junior men’s 25m Rapid-Fire Pistol event, Sameer qualified for the final by scoring 573 in the qualifying round, earning him the second spot. France’s Arnaud Gamaleri equaled the junior world record with a top score of 589, eventually winning gold with 29 hits. Sameer finished seventh in the final, managing seven hits in the first three five-shot series out of eight.
With 12 medals in total, India leads the medal tally at the Cairo Junior World Cup, securing four gold, five silver, and three bronze medals. The competition has two more days remaining, with six gold medals yet to be decided. Prachi Gaikwad won gold in the junior women’s 50m Rifle 3 Positions (3P) event earlier, while Elena Kretinina and Naraen Pranav secured bronze medals in their respective events.
India’s success continued with Shiva Narwal’s gold in the men’s 10m Air Pistol event on the opening day of the competition. Alongside four silver and three bronze medals, India reclaimed the top spot in the medal tally. Prachi was the sole Indian to qualify for the Junior Women’s 3P final, finishing sixth in the qualifying round with a score of 578 and placing fifth after the first 10 shots in the Kneeling position.
