After a defeat to South Africa in the 2026 Women’s T20 World Cup, India’s head coach, Amol Muzumdar, acknowledged the team’s developing bowling unit. Despite failing to defend 159 runs, Muzumdar highlighted the inexperience of most bowlers, emphasizing the need for time and exposure in international cricket.
Muzumdar pointed out that, apart from Deepti, the bowling lineup consists of relatively inexperienced players like Charani, Rawat, Shreyanka, Gaud, and Sharma. He expressed confidence that with 24 months and more exposure, the bowlers will improve significantly. India faced challenges as Marizanne Kapp’s unbeaten 81 off 45 balls proved difficult to counter.
The coach also mentioned the missed opportunities, with Marizanne being given reprieves twice by substitute fielder Radha Yadav. Despite the setbacks, Muzumdar praised Radha’s fielding skills and expressed faith in her ability to bounce back during the tournament. India’s middle-order struggles continued against South Africa, falling short of the desired finish due to quick wickets.
India’s semi-final hopes were dented, requiring a turnaround in upcoming matches against Bangladesh and Australia. Muzumdar acknowledged the importance of these games and remained optimistic about India’s potential to perform well if they play to their strengths.
