India’s head coach, Amol Muzumdar, acknowledged the absence of Amanjot Kaur, a key seam-bowling all-rounder, from the 2026 Women’s T20 World Cup as a significant blow to the team. However, he expressed optimism in the emergence of uncapped pacer Nandni Sharma in the upcoming months. The selectors opted for Nandni in the T20 World Cup squad, as well as for three T20Is against England and a one-off Test at Lord’s in July, due to injuries sidelining Amanjot and Kashvee Gautam.
Muzumdar mentioned that replacing someone like Amanjot, who has been a consistent performer for India, is challenging. Amanjot’s back injury will keep her out of cricket for at least four to five months. Despite the setback, Muzumdar hopes for her swift recovery and return to the game stronger. India batter Jemimah Rodrigues expressed confidence in the team’s ability to support Amanjot’s comeback and leverage her experience for the best results.
Nandni Sharma’s impressive performance in the WPL 2026, where she took 17 wickets for Delhi Capitals, including a hat-trick, has garnered attention. She was also part of the Rising Stars Women’s Asia Cup in Bangkok but had to withdraw due to an injury. Muzumdar praised Nandni’s consistent performance in the WPL and emphasized the team’s readiness to nurture her talent further.
Highlighting the upcoming camp for the women’s team at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru starting on May 10, Muzumdar stressed the importance of thorough preparation before their departure to England on May 22. He mentioned the team’s positive momentum from the previous series against England and their readiness for the upcoming challenges. With Amanjot’s absence affecting the lower-order hitting, the team may consider Bharti Fulmali for a role in the playing eleven against England and in the World Cup.
