India made a strong start at the United World Wrestling U23 Asian Championships in Da Nang, Vietnam, with Greco-Roman wrestlers Sagar Singh and Suraj advancing to their respective gold medal matches on the first day. Notable performances came in the 67kg and 60kg categories, where both wrestlers displayed attacking prowess and composure to secure spots in the finals. Sagar Singh’s strategic approach in the 67kg category and Suraj’s confident campaign in the 60kg division earned them places in the title matches.
Kumar Sachin, competing in the 77kg category, fought valiantly but narrowly lost in a tight semifinal against Alikhan Dursonov. However, Indian wrestlers in the 72kg and 82kg categories faced tough competition and could not progress beyond the early rounds. Wrestling Federation of India President Sanjay Singh commended the wrestlers for their performances, praising their determination and fighting spirit in the face of strong competition at the championship.
The Greco-Roman campaign for India will continue with qualification bouts in various weight classes. Neeraj will kick off in the 55kg category, followed by Sumit in the 63kg division and Rohit Bura in the 87kg category. The aim for these wrestlers is to advance to the quarterfinals and maintain India’s momentum in the continental championship.
