The Ahmedabad Police in Gujarat apprehended an Indian Air Force corporal for his involvement in a jewellery store heist that occurred nearly two years ago in the Khadia area. The robbery, which included the use of a firearm, resulted in the theft of gold, silver, jewellery, and cash amounting to Rs 1.51 crore. The suspect, identified as Deepak Bhuker, was traced to a service revolver stolen during a house burglary in Jamnagar.
During the robbery at Dharmanandan ni Khadki near Fernandes Bridge on Gandhi Road, a masked individual brandishing a pistol entered the shop, threatened the occupants, and looted various valuables before shooting the shop owner’s father in the leg. Following the incident, a comprehensive investigation involving multiple police teams was initiated to solve the case. Deputy Commissioner of Police Rupal Solanki highlighted the sequence of events during the robbery, emphasizing the significant value of the stolen items.
Investigators successfully linked the stolen service revolver from Jamnagar to the firearm used in the Khadia robbery through technical evidence and CCTV footage analysis. The suspect, Deepak Bhuker, a 31-year-old Air Force corporal stationed in New Delhi, was detained with the cooperation of Air Force authorities. A search of his quarters led to the recovery of the stolen firearm and live cartridges, further connecting him to the crime scene. Additionally, the arrest shed light on a previously unsolved house-breaking case in Jamnagar.
Police revealed that the accused utilized fake identification and took measures to avoid leaving fingerprints at the crime scene, including disguising his appearance and changing transportation modes after the robbery. The recovered stolen property, including a pistol and live cartridges, is currently under investigation for verification. Authorities also disclosed the suspect’s prior criminal record, involving cases related to cheque dishonour and prohibition.
