External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar held talks with Ecuadorian Foreign Minister Gabriela Sommerfeld to strengthen collaboration in trade, agriculture, and capacity building. They also discussed cooperation in health, digital technologies, and multilateral forums. Ecuador expressed interest in joining India-led initiatives like the ISRO Solar Alliance and the International Big Cat Alliance.
Jaishankar highlighted Ecuador’s membership in the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure and announced an agreement on funding Quick Impact Projects. The visit aims to bolster bilateral ties, with Sommerfeld scheduled to meet Indian ministers for further discussions on various sectors. Last November, Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Margherita visited Ecuador to enhance cooperation in areas like agriculture, cybersecurity, and education.
Margherita and Sommerfeld signed a Memorandum of Understanding on diplomatic training cooperation and inaugurated the resident Embassy of India in Quito. The two countries have a longstanding diplomatic relationship, with regular Foreign Office Consultations to strengthen ties and collaboration.
