Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi engaged in discussions with Sri Lankan defense officials, emphasizing cooperation in Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) and enhancing collaboration in shared interest areas. The talks included strengthening bilateral defense cooperation, boosting military-to-military engagement, and underlining the commitment of both countries to regional security and defense partnership. In a previous instance, India initiated Operation Sagar Bandhu in November 2025 to provide immediate HADR assistance to Sri Lanka following Cyclone Ditwah.
The discussions with Sri Lanka’s Deputy Defense Minister Aruna Jayasekara and Defense Secretary Sampath Thuyacontha focused on reinforcing collaboration in mutual interest areas. The meeting also involved reviewing the Guard of Honour at the Sri Lankan Army Headquarters in Colombo and interacting with Sri Lankan Army Commander Lieutenant General BKGM Lasantha Rodrigo. The Indian Army emphasized the importance of deepening military ties and enhancing defense cooperation between the two nations.
During the visit, General Dwivedi met with Sri Lanka’s Defense Services Command and Staff College Commandant Major General K.W. Jayaweera. He inaugurated the ‘Indo-Lanka Wisdom Corner’ at the college’s library and addressed faculty and student officers on global security dynamics, modern warfare trends, and the integration of emerging technologies into military operations. The Army chief encouraged officers to continuously improve their professional skills to become effective leaders in the evolving security landscape.
