Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi stated that it is crucial for every soldier in the Indian armed forces to be skilled in operating drones. He highlighted the ongoing training and exposure provided to cadets and personnel in drone systems, simulators, and counter-drone technologies to prepare them for future battle scenarios.
General Dwivedi introduced the concept of “Eagle on the Arm,” signifying the importance of soldiers being proficient in drone handling. He emphasized the need for every soldier to possess the capability to operate drones, underlining the growing significance of drone warfare in modern military operations.
Training infrastructure for drone operations is being enhanced across military institutions and academies, with a focus on strengthening soldiers’ knowledge of both drone operations and counter-drone systems. General Dwivedi stressed the necessity for soldiers to be well-versed in drone technology due to its increasing role in modern warfare.
The army chief also discussed the progress towards theatreisation of the Indian armed forces, stating that the initiative is progressing positively. He mentioned that discussions on restructuring military commands have been concluded, with recommendations already submitted to the government for review.
General Dwivedi elaborated on the proposed command structure under theatreisation, emphasizing the importance of integration and synergy among the services to enhance operational effectiveness. He expressed confidence in the reform process, anticipating further advancements under the new Chief of Defence Staff (CDS).
