General Upendra Dwivedi, Chief of Army Staff (COAS), spoke at the Indian Army’s annual press conference, emphasizing the positive developments in the Northeast region, particularly in Manipur. He credited the enhanced situation to the security forces’ neutral, transparent, and decisive actions. Dwivedi mentioned that efforts are underway to protect the Northeast from any repercussions of the unrest in Myanmar.
The Army chief highlighted the successful initiatives that contributed to stability in Manipur, such as the peaceful Durand Cup, cultural festivals, and the renewal of suspension of operations with Kuki insurgent groups. He also mentioned the collaborative efforts of the Indian Army, Assam Rifles, and Ministry of Home Affairs to secure the northeastern front amidst the challenges in Myanmar.
Dwivedi underscored the stable and controlled situation along the northern and northwestern borders, emphasizing the importance of maintaining constant vigilance. He noted the positive transformation in Jammu and Kashmir, with a shift from terrorism to tourism, and highlighted the elimination of 31 terrorists in 2025, majority of whom were of Pakistani origin, including those responsible for the Pahalgam terror attack.
