The Indian Army has completed its flood relief and rescue operations in Gujarat and the Union Territory of Dadra & Nagar Haveli, evacuating over 790 stranded individuals over three days. The focus now shifts to relief, restoration, and damage assessment following heavy monsoon rains. The operations, initiated on July 23 under the Southern Command, were in response to widespread flooding caused by incessant rainfall.

Relief and Rescue Columns, with Engineer and Medical teams, worked alongside the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and other agencies. Operations were conducted in various areas including Navsari, Valsad, Vapi, Silvassa, and flood-affected regions of Ahmedabad district. Additional columns were on standby for emergent situations.

During the missions, troops conducted rescue operations in flooded and inaccessible areas, successfully evacuating more than 790 civilians. Medical teams provided immediate care, while relief personnel distributed essential supplies like food and water. The Army also assisted in restoring normalcy in the affected regions, showcasing effective military-civil cooperation.

The Ministry of Defence emphasized the collaborative efforts between the Army, disaster response agencies, civil authorities, and volunteers during the operations. The successful execution demonstrated the Indian Army’s dedication to serving the nation and its people during crises. The Army’s involvement expanded significantly since the initial deployment on July 23, with a broader multi-agency response addressing the flood aftermath.

The Indian Coast Guard also conducted rescue operations, saving 170 individuals in Daman, Dadra & Nagar Haveli, and South Gujarat. As the rainfall subsided, the focus in Gujarat shifted towards restoration and rehabilitation efforts. Authorities are evaluating damages, restoring services, and aiding affected communities. While the situation improves, rescue teams remain on standby for any potential deterioration.
