The Indian Army’s Engineer Task Force is actively engaged in Operation Sagar Bandhu to repair B-492, a key road connecting Kandy in Sri Lanka’s Central Province to Badulla in the Uva Province. This road was severely impacted by Cyclone Ditwah, disrupting transportation.

A schoolgirl, in a video shared by the Indian Army, expressed gratitude for the assistance provided by the Indian Army in restoring the damaged bridge. The Army has been constructing Bailey bridges at strategic points along the route to facilitate connectivity and reduce travel time for the affected communities.

Operation Sagar Bandhu was initiated by India in response to Cyclone Ditwah, aiming to offer immediate Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) support to Sri Lanka. The cyclone caused extensive flooding, landslides, and infrastructure damage, necessitating urgent international aid.

Indian Navy ships INS Vikrant and INS Udayagiri promptly responded to the crisis, redirecting their operations to assist in the relief efforts following the cyclone’s impact. The Indian Army’s efforts under Operation Sagar Bandhu have included not only restoring critical road links but also establishing a field hospital in Mahiyanganaya to address urgent medical needs in the region.
