An Indian Army jawan, Jochok Rabha, along with two others, died due to inhaling toxic gas inside a septic tank in Assam’s Goalpara district. The victims also included mason Krishna Rai and worker Dilip Das. The tragic incident occurred during cleaning work at Rabha’s residence.
Rabha, who was on a week-long leave, had undertaken construction work at his house. He had hired masons to clean the septic tank before commencing further construction. Tragedy struck when one worker collapsed inside the tank after inhaling poisonous gas, prompting another to enter for a rescue attempt, resulting in both losing consciousness.
In a brave but fatal attempt to save the workers, Rabha himself entered the tank and succumbed to the toxic fumes. Another local resident, Bajpayee Rabha, also entered the tank during the rescue, suffering severe breathing difficulties. While the three trapped individuals lost their lives, Bajpayee Rabha remains in critical condition under treatment.
The incident has deeply saddened the local community, with an outpouring of grief for the deceased. Authorities are investigating the matter, focusing on the adherence to safety protocols during the cleaning operation.
