Flood preparedness, early warning systems, and satellite-based surveillance took center stage at the National Civil-Military Symposium on Flood and Flood Related Disaster Management organized by the Indian Army’s Central Command in Lucknow. The event, held in coordination with the Uttar Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority, aimed to reinforce a comprehensive approach ahead of Monsoon 2026.
Discussions at the symposium emphasized key areas such as flood preparedness, early warning systems, satellite-based surveillance, warning dissemination methods, climate change challenges, community resilience, and emergency response mechanisms. The focus was on promoting a Whole-of-Government and Whole-of-Society strategy to enhance disaster risk reduction and civil-military coordination for a more resilient India.
The symposium brought together various stakeholders including the National Disaster Management Authority, India Meteorological Department, Central Water Commission, National Remote Sensing Centre, and other key organizations. Uttar Pradesh Jal Shakti Minister Swatantra Dev Singh stressed the importance of preparedness, coordination, community resilience, and effective leadership in disaster management during the event.
Lieutenant General A. Sengupta, Lieutenant General Yogendra Dimri (Retd), and Uday Kant Misra were among the prominent figures present at the symposium. Additionally, the Central Command’s Sikh Light Infantry Regimental Training Centre at Fatehgarh commemorated World Environment Day 2026 with eco-friendly initiatives, underlining a commitment to environmental conservation and sustainable living practices.
