Indian basketball player Ulhas K.S. received recognition from Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami for his outstanding contributions to the sport and success internationally. Ulhas has been a trailblazer for Indian basketball abroad, especially in Europe, where he established a professional career when such opportunities were scarce. Reflecting on the honor, Ulhas expressed gratitude, highlighting the progress of Indian basketball and encouraging young athletes to aim for global success.

Born in Tamil Nadu, Ulhas gained prominence in the UK by leading the University of Westminster basketball team to victory in the London inter-university league. This success paved the way for his entry into European professional basketball, where he became one of the first Indians to make a mark. Ulhas excelled in various European countries, notably playing for Novi Pazar Salamander in Serbia and Gloria Basketball Club in Moldova, showcasing his skills against top international competition.

Ulhas’s achievements extend to representing India in the FIBA Basketball World Cup Qualifiers and excelling in European leagues, including being the second-highest scorer in Moldova’s National League Division 1. His leadership and versatility have earned him championship titles in India and the UK. The recognition from the Uttarakhand Chief Minister underscores the increasing global presence of Indian athletes, with Ulhas’s journey serving as an inspiration for aspiring basketball talents to aim for success on the international stage.
