Indian boxer Sachin Siwach progressed to the pre-quarterfinals of the men’s 60kg event at the Commonwealth Games 2026 by defeating Canada’s Keoma Al-Ahmadieh in a closely contested match at the Scottish Event Campus. Siwach, a former Commonwealth Youth Games champion, secured a 4-1 split decision victory, setting up a clash with England’s Will Hewitt in the next round.

The bout started with both boxers exchanging punches aggressively in the center of the ring. Siwach’s precise timing and effective connections gave him the edge in the opening round, with three judges scoring it 10-9 in his favor.

In the second round, Al-Ahmadieh, a bronze medalist at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, upped his aggression to control the pace. Siwach, however, maintained his composure and capitalized on well-timed counter-attacks, convincing all judges to award him the round.

With Al-Ahmadieh needing a strong finish in the final round, he came out aggressively. Siwach, with a lead on the scorecards, opted for a strategic approach, controlling the tempo and avoiding unnecessary risks. Despite Al-Ahmadieh winning the final round according to three judges, Siwach had built a sufficient lead to secure victory on a split decision.

Sachin Siwach will face a tough challenge in the pre-quarterfinals against England’s Will Hewitt, known for defeating a Paris Olympic silver medalist at the World Boxing Championships.

India’s boxing squad at the Commonwealth Games comprises 14 members, evenly split between men and women across various weight categories. Olympic medallist Lovlina Borgohain has already secured at least a bronze medal by reaching the semi-finals, as per Commonwealth Games boxing rules awarding bronze to both losing semi-finalists.
