Jaismine Lamboria has reached the top spot in the women’s 57kg category, with Priya Ghanghas (60kg) and Vishvanath Suresh (50kg) also making it to the top three in their respective weight classes. India has maintained a strong presence in the recent World Boxing Rankings, with its boxers featuring in the Top 10 in nine out of the 10 women’s weight categories and eight out of the 10 men’s divisions.
In the women’s division, Minakshi remains at the pinnacle as World No. 1 in the 48kg category, while Preeti has climbed to No. 3. Arundhati Choudhary (70kg), Pooja Rani (80kg), and Nupur (+80kg) have secured the second spot in their categories, showcasing India’s growing prowess in the heavier weight classes. Established stars Nikhat Zareen (51kg) and Lovlina Borgohain (75kg) have also maintained their positions among the top boxers globally.
The men’s team has shown similar consistency, with Sachin and Narender breaking into the Top 5 after a successful international campaign. Hitesh Gulia (70kg) retains his No. 6 ranking, while Abhinash Jamwal (65kg) is placed eighth in the world rankings. Akash (75kg) and Lokesh (85kg) have also entered the Top 10, highlighting India’s increasing competitiveness across various weight categories.
Ajay Singh, President of the Boxing Federation of India, emphasized the significance of these rankings, attributing them to the robust structures and systems developed in recent years. India currently ranks third globally in terms of Top-10 athletes, excelling in women’s boxing by securing the second position and holding a strong fourth place in the men’s category. India leads the world in the women’s Top-3 bracket, showcasing its dominance in women’s boxing.
The depth of talent extends beyond the Top 10 rankings. In the women’s rankings, Parveen (60kg) holds the 13th spot, Ankushita Boro (65kg) narrowly misses the Top 10 at No. 11, and Saweety (75kg), Sakshi (54kg), Sanju (60kg), and Neeraj Phogat (65kg) maintain competitive positions globally. Among men, Ankush (80kg) ranks 11th, Deepak (70kg) is placed 12th, Jugnoo (85kg) occupies the 14th spot, Harsh Choudhary (90kg) is at 10th, and Sumit (75kg) and Kumar Naveen (90kg) are placed 18th. Nikhil Dubey (75kg) and Vishal (90kg) share the 22nd position in their respective divisions.
India’s remarkable ascent in the world rankings is attributed to outstanding performances at the World Boxing Cup Finals, impressive medal hauls at the World Championships, and consistent results in both elite and age-group competitions.
