The Indian Coast Guard conducted an operation against trans-border maritime crime, leading to the interception of a fishing boat and its four Indian crew members. The operation, carried out near the Indo-Bangladesh International Maritime Boundary Line, aimed to address illegal arms and ammunition trafficking. Acting on intelligence from the Central Intelligence Agency, the Coast Guard successfully intercepted the boat, preventing a potential trans-border gun-running attempt.

The fishing boat, suspected of carrying arms and ammunition destined for Bangladesh, was apprehended after a thorough search in the South 24 Parganas district. The operation, marked by exceptional coordination among various agencies, including the Sunderbans Forest Department, resulted in the seizure of the illicit consignment. The successful interception highlighted the crucial role of intelligence sharing and collaborative efforts in combating maritime threats.

Following the interception, the fishing boat, crew members, and seized arms and ammunition were handed over to the West Bengal Marine Police for further investigation and legal proceedings. This successful interdiction reaffirmed the Indian Coast Guard’s commitment to safeguarding maritime frontiers against trans-border threats. Through enhanced surveillance and inter-agency collaboration, the Coast Guard remains dedicated to ensuring coastal and maritime security, protecting national sovereignty and interests.
