Consul General of India in Toronto, Mahaveer Singhvi, recently met with Tony Wakeham, the Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador province in Canada. They engaged in discussions to enhance cooperation between India and Newfoundland and Labrador, focusing on various sectors such as energy, critical minerals, trade, investment, innovation, and academic partnerships.
The meeting highlighted the potential for collaboration in offshore energy, critical minerals, green hydrogen, mining, marine technology, healthcare, education, and research. Both sides emphasized the importance of building resilient economic partnerships, fostering innovation, expanding institutional linkages, and creating new opportunities for mutual growth and long-term prosperity.
In a separate event, the Consul General participated in the ‘India-Canada Roundtable on Critical Minerals,’ emphasizing the need for strengthening business-to-business engagement and exploring opportunities in the critical minerals sector across different Canadian provinces. The discussions underscored the benefits of the India-Canada partnership in establishing secure and diversified critical mineral value chains.
During a meeting with Michael Coe from the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan (OTPP), the Consul General discussed enhancing OTPP’s involvement in India and furthering areas of mutual interest. The interaction reflected the increasing economic engagement between India and Canada, demonstrating OTPP’s confidence in India’s growth trajectory and investment potential.
