The Indian cricket team has advanced to third place in the latest ICC Men’s Test Team Rankings after the annual update. This rise was propelled by a recalibration of match weightings, surpassing England in the process. Australia maintains its top position with 131 rating points, showing a slight gain of three points.
Reigning World Test Champions South Africa held onto second place with 119 points. The significant shift occurred in the battle for third place, where India moved up one spot to reach 104 points. This progress pushed England down to fourth place with 102 points due to the diminishing impact of some earlier series results.
Pakistan made strides by moving ahead of Sri Lanka in the rankings, benefiting from the removal or reduced impact of older defeats. The top 10 rankings otherwise remained stable, with West Indies, Bangladesh, and Zimbabwe rounding out the list.
The update also highlighted the exit of Ireland from the rankings due to insufficient matches during the evaluation period. This underscores the importance of consistent participation in Test cricket to maintain rankings. Despite the rise to third place in the annual rankings, India currently occupies the sixth position in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 cycle with a 48.15 PCT, having faced setbacks in home series against South Africa and the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) in Australia.
