The Indian Deaf Women’s Cricket Team is on the brink of a groundbreaking moment as they prepare for their inaugural international T20 tour to Sri Lanka this week. This tour marks a significant milestone for the deaf women’s team in international women’s cricket and signals a promising future for deaf cricket in India.
Ahead of the upcoming five-match T20 International Deaf Cricket Series, the Indian team unveiled their jersey in New Delhi. The event witnessed the presence of key figures including Sumit Jain, President of the Indian Deaf Cricket Association (IDCA), Sunny Singh, IAS DM of New Delhi, and Ashok Sharma, Secretary of DDCA, among others.
Sumit Jain, expressing his thoughts on the occasion, emphasized the tour’s importance for Indian deaf cricket, highlighting the dedication and passion of the women cricketers who have long played the sport away from the global stage. Former Indian Women’s Cricket team Captain Daina Edulji commended the players for their achievement, emphasizing the significance of breaking barriers and representing India on an international platform.
Kajal Dhawan, the Captain of the Indian Women’s Deaf Cricket Team, echoed the sentiments of pride and excitement, emphasizing the historic nature of the tour to Sri Lanka and the team’s determination to showcase their skills and passion for cricket. The team is set to compete in five T20 matches at De Soysa Park International Cricket Stadium in Moratuwa, Sri Lanka, from July 7 to July 13, 2026.
IDCA also announced two upcoming women’s cricket tournaments in India during the unveiling ceremony: the Women’s Deaf T20I Tri-Series in March 2027 and the DICC Women’s T20 World Cup scheduled for Delhi in February 2028. These events underscore India’s commitment to promoting inclusive cricket and providing a platform for deaf women athletes to shine on the global stage.
