The Indian Embassy in Oman is actively involved in coordinating search and rescue operations for the Indian Flagged Mechanised Sailing Vessel ‘Virat 1’ off the coast of Oman. The vessel, with 14 Indian crew members on board, was involved in an incident. Efforts are being made in collaboration with Omani authorities and nearby vessels to address the situation.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) recently summoned US Charge d’Affaires Jason Meeks to express India’s strong objection to the ongoing attacks by US naval forces on commercial ships carrying Indian seafarers in the Gulf of Oman. India emphasized that such actions are unacceptable and jeopardize international maritime commerce’s safety and stability in a sensitive region. The MEA urged US authorities to take necessary steps to prevent further loss of civilian lives.
Following a series of attacks on commercial vessels in the Gulf of Oman, the MEA reiterated its concerns to the US Charge d’Affaires, highlighting the tragic loss of three Indian lives in these incidents. The Indian Embassy in Muscat also reported the successful rescue of all 20 Indian crew members aboard ‘MT Jalveer’ with the assistance of Omani authorities. Additionally, during a recent inter-ministerial briefing, it was confirmed that all 20 Indian seafarers on ‘MT Jalveer’ are safe after an attack near the Shinas port in Oman.
