Following a recent incident where an Indian national lost his life in an attack on a commercial vessel in the Black Sea, the Indian Embassy in Ukraine disclosed that three Indians were among the crew members of the MV OMORFI during the assault on July 18. Expressing condolences, the embassy stated that one Indian national perished in the attack, while the other two were reported safe.
In response to the incidents, the Indian Embassy in Russia has engaged with authorities to provide support to the affected families. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has strongly denounced such attacks on commercial shipping, emphasizing the importance of safeguarding maritime navigation and global commerce. India urges all parties to uphold international obligations for ensuring the safety of navigation and uninterrupted flow of commerce.
In a separate incident, four Indian nationals lost their lives in an attack on the MV Golden Leopard departing from the Odesa port in Ukraine. The MEA reiterated its condemnation of such assaults, emphasizing the need to protect civilian crew members and uphold the freedom of navigation and commerce.
