External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar is scheduled to meet Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake following India’s ‘Operation Sagar Bandhu’ in response to Cyclone Ditwah. Jaishankar arrived in Colombo to a warm reception by Sri Lankan Deputy Tourism Minister Ruwan Ranasinghe. The visit underscores India’s Neighbourhood First Policy and commitment to assisting Sri Lanka during times of crisis.
India initiated Operation Sagar Bandhu on November 28 as the First Responder after Cyclone Ditwah, providing urgent Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief support to Sri Lanka. Relief supplies were recently delivered to flood-affected areas in Sri Lanka, reflecting India’s ongoing support during Operation Sagar Bandhu. India’s High Commissioner to Sri Lanka visited affected regions and distributed assistance kits to families and children in need.
Efforts to restore critical road connectivity in Sri Lanka are progressing, with preparations underway for bridge installations in Chilaw and Kilinochchi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently spoke with President Dissanayake, expressing condolences and assuring continued support under Operation Sagar Bandhu. President Dissanayake conveyed gratitude for India’s timely assistance and expressed appreciation for the swift response efforts.
