The 20-year-old Grandmaster from Chennai secured the championship by defeating Germany’s Vincent Keymer in the final round, finishing with 18 points and surpassing American Grandmaster Wesley So, who had 17 points. Praggnanandhaa’s exceptional performance included defeating top players like Magnus Carlsen and Gukesh Dommaraju, leading to his impressive comeback in the tournament.
Praggnanandhaa’s triumph not only marked a significant milestone for Indian chess but also earned him the top prize of USD 100,000 at the prestigious event. His victory has garnered widespread admiration and celebration across the country, showcasing India’s growing influence in the global chess arena.
