The High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka recently unveiled and handed over 24 new houses at Pathinigama Model Village in Kurunegala District. These houses were constructed with India’s grant assistance to enhance living standards and promote inclusive socio-economic development at the grassroots level. Model Villages, supported by India, are being established in all 25 districts of Sri Lanka.
During a visit to Delft Mahavidyalayam on Delft Island, the Indian High Commissioner, accompanied by the Governor of the Northern Province, inaugurated the ‘Bharat Corner’ and distributed essential aid to the school’s students. He commended the resilience of the people on Delft Island, acknowledging their perseverance in the face of daily challenges.
Expressing admiration for the community’s spirit, the High Commissioner emphasized India’s commitment to assisting in building a brighter future for the people of Sri Lanka. He highlighted the collaborative efforts between India and Sri Lanka, aimed at fostering a prosperous future for the upcoming generations through people-centric initiatives.
As part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ (Plant4Mother) campaign, the High Commissioner planted a tree at Keerimalai Naguleshwaram Temple. This gesture symbolizes India’s support for environmental conservation and sustainable development initiatives in Sri Lanka.
