The Indian Institute of Teacher Education (IITE) in Gandhinagar has announced a significant academic expansion in alignment with the National Education Policy (NEP)-2020. This expansion includes the establishment of seven new university schools and the introduction of a multidisciplinary academic structure. Students will now have the opportunity to study subjects beyond their traditional streams, such as artificial intelligence and philosophy.
Dr. Mehul Dave, the director of IITE, highlighted that the institution is moving towards becoming a “University of National Importance” by adopting a multidisciplinary academic model as outlined in the NEP framework. The university is set to become the first in India dedicated to preparing educators in artificial intelligence, marking a pioneering initiative in the country.
With a grant of Rs 127 crore sanctioned by the state government for new buildings and hostel facilities, the university aims to enhance its infrastructure to support the expansion plans. The revised academic structure is designed to offer holistic education, promote skill-based learning, and facilitate advanced interdisciplinary research opportunities.
The restructuring not only expands teacher education beyond conventional classroom teaching but also includes professionals from various fields like computer education, gym training, theatre, and coaching. The university’s new framework integrates subjects like artificial intelligence, sports, arts, and management into mainstream education programs, fostering interdisciplinary learning.
