In response to the unrest in Bangladesh, Indian intelligence agencies are on high alert along the border to prevent a potential influx of illegal immigrants. Security officials are concerned that pro-ISI groups may attempt a large-scale infiltration into India, taking advantage of the situation in Bangladesh. The plan involves sending a significant number of people towards the Indian border to overwhelm the system, particularly closer to the upcoming elections in West Bengal.
The security agencies anticipate a challenging election in West Bengal with a possibility of violence. The ISI aims to exploit this scenario by facilitating the entry of numerous illegal immigrants during this period. Officials describe the plot as sinister, with plans to introduce both Bangladeshis and Rohingya individuals simultaneously. While seeking to alter demographics in West Bengal and northeastern states, the ISI also intends to introduce terrorists into these regions.
Following an increase in ISI influence in Bangladesh, the organization has trained terrorists with the objective of deploying them into India. The risk of infiltrations is noted to be higher in low-visibility routes and riverine gaps in Assam, Tripura, and West Bengal. Additionally, these elements may exploit forest cover in these regions for their activities.
ISI-backed groups in Bangladesh have identified Rohingyas facing financial difficulties and coerced them into joining dedicated camps where they undergo terror-related training. These camps, established over a year ago, house a significant number of Bangladeshis and Rohingyas who are enticed with financial incentives to join terror outfits.
The infiltration plan extends beyond West Bengal and the northeastern states, with intentions to send these elements to other regions of India over time, including Jammu and Kashmir, southern states, and Maharashtra. This strategy has been in development since Pakistan’s defeat in the 1971 war with India, aiming to induce stress on the Indian system through mass infiltrations and demographic changes.
Despite previous unsuccessful attempts due to friendly dispensations in Bangladesh, the current situation favors the ISI-backed Jamaat’s plan for mass infiltrations. With a pro-Pakistan regime in Bangladesh, officials believe there is a conducive environment for executing this plan without hindrance.
