The Indian sub-junior women’s and men’s teams at the FIH Youth Hockey5s Asian Championship 2026 in Muscat, Oman, secured victories on Thursday. The women’s team triumphed over Kazakhstan with a commanding 10-0 win, while the men’s team defeated Bangladesh 8-3. In the women’s match, Nousheen Naz’s early goals set the tone, leading to a dominant performance with Sandeepa Kumari scoring a hat-trick.
The men’s team faced a tough first half against Bangladesh, maintaining a narrow lead of 3-2. Captain Ketan Kushwaha and Shahrukh Ali’s goals kept India ahead, with Bangladesh staying competitive. The second half saw India extend their lead with Kushwaha adding more goals, securing a comprehensive victory. Both teams will face China, Uzbekistan, Oman, and Pakistan in their upcoming matches.
The tournament in Muscat also serves as the Asian qualifier for the first FIH Youth Hockey5s World Cup. Earlier in the competition, both Indian teams started strongly with wins against Kazakhstan and Bangladesh, respectively. The Indian teams are competing in the Elite Pools of the championship, showcasing their prowess on the field.
