Indian leg-spinner Murugan Ashwin has announced his retirement from domestic cricket and the Indian Premier League (IPL). In a statement shared on Instagram, the 35-year-old reflected on his cricketing journey, expressing gratitude for the game that shaped him. Ashwin confirmed his decision to step away from domestic cricket and the IPL, aiming to explore new challenges while continuing to play competitively.
During his career, Ashwin represented six IPL franchises, including Rising Pune Supergiant, Delhi Daredevils, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Punjab Kings, Mumbai Indians, and Rajasthan Royals. He thanked all these teams for the opportunities and experiences he gained while playing in the IPL.
The spinner also acknowledged the privilege of playing alongside renowned Indian cricketers like MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Rohit Sharma. His decade-long IPL journey provided him with valuable experiences that contributed to his growth as a cricketer since his debut in 2016.
Ashwin expressed gratitude to the Board of Control for Cricket in India for organizing the IPL, recognizing the tournament’s role in his career development. He credited the IPL for providing a platform to showcase his talent at the highest level and thanked the BCCI for their efforts in making the tournament a success.
