After being stuck in Doha for 10 days, the Indian men’s Basketball team is finally heading back home, as confirmed by the Basketball Federation of India. The team had traveled to Doha for the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 Asian Qualifiers but got stranded due to ongoing geopolitical tensions affecting international flights.
The Qatar Basketball Federation stepped in to provide necessary support, including accommodation and logistical assistance to ensure the safety of the Indian contingent until they could return home. The team had to split into two groups for the journey back due to limited flight options, with one group traveling via Jeddah to Mumbai and the other group taking a direct flight to Lucknow.
The Basketball Federation of India highlighted that the safety and well-being of the players were their top priorities throughout this challenging situation. The federation’s president and secretary general maintained close communication with relevant authorities to facilitate the team’s safe return, acknowledging the support received from various organizations and embassies during this difficult period.
