Indian MMA star and Commonwealth Heavyweight champion Sangram Singh is gearing up for his fourth professional MMA bout at the Malaysia Strike MMA Championship in Kuala Lumpur. This event marks a significant moment for Indian mixed martial arts as Sangram will be the first Indian fighter to vie for the prestigious Asia Championship title. Scheduled for Sunday, July 19, the bout will see Sangram face off against experienced Pakistani MMA fighter Abid Ali, known for his victories in international competitions.
Sangram Singh’s MMA journey began with a victory against Pakistani fighter Ali Raza Nasir at the GAMMA International Fighting Championship in Tbilisi, Georgia. Following this, he triumphed over Tunisian fighter Hakim Trabelsi in the Netherlands. Notably, Sangram made history in Buenos Aires, Argentina, by defeating French fighter Florian Caudier in just 1 minute and 45 seconds, becoming the first Indian to win an MMA fight in Argentina.
For the upcoming bout, Sangram Singh will compete in the 83–89 kg weight category. Despite the inherent pressure in an India-Pakistan sporting rivalry, Sangram expressed his excitement about the challenge. He acknowledged the intense emotions that come with such contests but emphasized his focus and determination in preparing for the championship.
