The Indian National Congress commemorated its 140th Foundation Day with a flag-hoisting event at Indira Bhawan in New Delhi. The ceremony was attended by top party leaders, including Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge, Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi.
The Congress shared event details on social media, with Kharge hoisting the flag in the presence of Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and other senior leaders. Kharge praised Congress members, extending New Year greetings and highlighting the party’s founding in Mumbai on December 28, 1885.
Addressing party workers, Kharge acknowledged the sacrifices made by millions of Congress workers during the freedom struggle. He emphasized the party’s role in India’s independence movement, uniting people from all walks of life under Mahatma Gandhi’s leadership.
Kharge underscored significant milestones, including the 75th anniversary of the Constitution’s adoption and the 150th birth anniversary of the Constitution. He credited Congress governments for transformative initiatives like the Green Revolution and IT sector expansion, while also criticizing the current government for allegedly weakening institutions established by the Congress.
Kharge urged party members to uphold democratic values and respond to challenges with civility, drawing inspiration from Mahatma Gandhi’s belief in the triumph of truth. The Congress Foundation Day celebrations are being observed nationwide to honor the party’s 140-year legacy.
