In a significant political move, the Indian National Congress is poised to enter the Tamil Nadu Cabinet for the first time in nearly six decades. Two Congress legislators, S.Rajesh Kumar and P.Viswanathan, are set to be sworn in as ministers in the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) government led by Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay on Thursday.
This decision follows the approval from Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge for the inclusion of the two Congress MLAs in the state Cabinet. The move is seen as a crucial development in Tamil Nadu’s political landscape and a notable reinforcement of the alliance backing the TVK government.
AICC General Secretary K.C. Venugopal confirmed the news via a social media post, stating that the INC President has sanctioned the induction of the two INC MLAs into the Tamil Nadu cabinet. He expressed optimism that the newly appointed ministers would work towards fulfilling the aspirations of the people of Tamil Nadu and uphold a governance model focused on welfare.
The Congress, with five MLAs in the Tamil Nadu Assembly, emerged as a pivotal support for the TVK government post the Assembly elections. The inclusion of Congress ministers is perceived by political analysts as a strategic move by the TVK leadership to enhance alliance coordination and offer more representation to supporting parties, ensuring political stability.
