A delegation from India’s National Defence College (NDC) engaged with counterparts in Canada’s Department of National Defence and Global Affairs to boost defense cooperation between the two countries. The 16-member delegation, comprising officers from the Indian Armed Forces, Civil Services, and Friendly Foreign Countries, is on a five-day visit to Canada. Discussions included exploring avenues to strengthen India-Canada defense ties, with plans to interact with academia and visit key defense-related institutions in Canada.
In recent developments, India and Canada deliberated on enhancing defense collaboration and expanding cooperation in various sectors. Talks took place between Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh and Canada’s Senior Associate Deputy Minister of National Defence Kelvin Brosseau during the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore. Both sides emphasized the need to reinforce defense cooperation and explore opportunities for deeper collaboration across strategic domains.
Further strengthening ties, Union Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh met with Canada’s Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Rob Oliphant, during the Commonwealth Foreign Affairs Ministers Meeting (CFAMM) in the UK. Discussions focused on enhancing bilateral engagement and advancing cooperation in mutually beneficial areas. The renewed momentum in India-Canada relations, including Prime Minister Mark Carney’s visit to India, underpinned the talks on bolstering ties and fostering cooperation in key sectors.
In a significant meeting last year, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney reviewed the progress in bilateral relations during the G20 Leaders’ Summit in Johannesburg.
