The Indian Navy and Japan Maritime Self-Defence Force held the 11th edition of Staff Talks in New Delhi to enhance maritime cooperation and interoperability. Co-chaired by Rear Admiral Srinivas Maddula and Rear Admiral Toshiyuki Hirata, the discussions aimed at promoting a collaborative approach towards a free and open Indo-Pacific. Both nations agreed to strengthen ties through cooperation in operations, equipment, and personnel aspects.
The JMSDF highlighted the importance of deepening naval relations with India to contribute to regional peace and stability. Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi recently met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, emphasizing the shared values and strategic interests between Japan and India. During the 18th India-Japan Strategic Dialogue, discussions encompassed economic, maritime, and multilateral cooperation, reflecting the strong partnership between the two countries.
EAM Jaishankar expressed optimism about the growing Special Strategic and Global Partnership between India and Japan. He underscored the potential for shaping the world order and de-risking the international economy through deeper economic, maritime, technology, and multilateral cooperation. The dialogue also covered perspectives on Indo-Pacific affairs and regional/global developments, highlighting shared interests and mutual understanding.
