Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Krishna Swaminathan highlighted the Indian Navy’s self-reliance and adaptability, noting that most modern naval technologies are now ‘Made in India’. Speaking after the commissioning of INS Mahendragiri in Visakhapatnam, he praised the growth of the Indian shipbuilding industry, emphasizing its efficiency in constructing the vessel in half the expected time.

Admiral Swaminathan reiterated the Navy’s focus on indigenous production, with a significant increase in the ship’s local components. He outlined the Navy’s commitment to self-reliant programs, aiming to incorporate indigenous solutions in shipbuilding, including sourcing indigenous weapons, sensor systems, and steel.

Addressing evolving warfare technologies, Admiral Swaminathan emphasized the Navy’s awareness of technological advancements and its adaptive approach to changing warfare dynamics. He stressed the importance of monitoring global technological trends to enhance the Navy’s capabilities and stay ahead in potential conflicts.

The Naval Chief expressed satisfaction in the availability of advanced technologies within India, attributing this progress to collaborations between the Navy, Ministry of Defence, DRDO, and DDP with private and public sector industries. He also discussed the Navy’s role in safeguarding merchant ships in the Strait of Hormuz, highlighting its preparedness and swift response to national security needs.
