Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi recently met with Myanmar Navy’s Commander-in-Chief Admiral Htein Win in Naypyitaw. Discussions between the two naval leaders focused on strengthening bilateral ties, with an emphasis on advancing naval engagements. The talks included topics such as maritime engagement opportunities, capacity building, training exchanges, Mobile Training Teams (MTTs), hydrography, and enhancing interoperability.
During his visit, Admiral Tripathi also engaged with Myanmar’s Defence Minister General Htun Aung to discuss the current status of bilateral relations. The interactions underscored the strategic importance of India-Myanmar defense engagement in promoting regional stability and security. Admiral Tripathi is set to conclude his four-day official visit to Myanmar soon.
In addition, Admiral Tripathi met with Rear Admiral Aung Aung Naing and Rear Admiral Khun Aung Kyaw from Myanmar Navy’s Central Naval Command and Training Command, respectively. The discussions aimed at strengthening navy-to-navy cooperation, enhancing defense partnership, and increasing operational engagements. The two sides explored avenues for future collaboration and emphasized the commitment to enhancing training cooperation and interoperability.
At the Naval Training Command in Myanmar, Admiral Tripathi observed various projects executed with Indian assistance, including the Containerised Small Arms Simulator and the Rigid Inflatable Boat. These projects aim to augment maritime security in the Bay of Bengal region. The visit by the Chief of the Naval Staff reaffirms the enduring friendship between India and Myanmar, centered on mutual respect, trust, and a shared commitment to maritime security and stability in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR).
