Chief of the Naval Staff, Dinesh K Tripathi, is undertaking a four-day official visit to Myanmar from May 2 to May 5. The visit aims to strengthen bilateral maritime cooperation and defense ties between the two countries. During his visit, Admiral Tripathi will engage in bilateral discussions with senior Myanmar leadership, including key officials such as General Ye Win Oo and Admiral Htein Win.
These interactions are crucial for reviewing ongoing maritime cooperation, enhancing operational-level linkages, and exploring new avenues for collaboration between the Indian Navy and the Myanmar Navy. The visit will also involve engagements at significant Myanmar Navy establishments like the Central Naval Command, Naval Training Command, and No. 1 Fleet. Additionally, Admiral Tripathi will pay respects at the Myanmar Armed Forces Fallen Heroes’ War Memorial.
The Indian Navy and the Myanmar Navy regularly interact through various channels, including Defence Cooperation Meetings, Staff Talks, training exchanges, and operational engagements. Notable joint initiatives between the two navies include the India-Myanmar Naval Exercise (IMNEX) and the Indo-Myanmar Coordinated Patrol (IMCOR), among others. These activities reflect the deep-rooted maritime cooperation between India and Myanmar.
