The Indian Navy engaged in significant bilateral discussions with naval leaders from partner nations during the International Fleet Review (IFR) 2026 in Visakhapatnam. Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi, the Indian Navy chief, met with South African Navy chief Vice Admiral Monde Lobese to strengthen naval cooperation through exercises, port calls, and information sharing. The presence of SAS Amatola highlighted South Africa’s active involvement in the IFR 2026.

Admiral Tripathi also held talks with Iranian Navy commander Admiral Shahram Irani to enhance operational cooperation through port visits and training exchanges, emphasizing engagement under the Indian Ocean Naval Symposium (IONS). Vice Admiral Krishna Swaminathan of the Western Naval Command met with Seychelles Defence Forces chief Major General Michael Rosette to discuss sustained operational engagement, including port calls and training cooperation under the SAGAR initiative.

Furthermore, Vice Admiral Swaminathan engaged with Kenya Navy commander Major General Paul Owuor Otieno to strengthen operational interactions, training cooperation, and information sharing. Discussions included the placement of a Kenya Navy liaison officer at the Information Fusion Centre–Indian Ocean Region (IFC-IOR). The interactions highlighted India’s dedication to bolstering maritime partnerships and fostering security and cooperation in the Indian Ocean region and beyond.
