Indian Navy has enhanced its anti-submarine capabilities as Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE) handed over the third Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft (ASW SWC) Anjadip. This delivery marks the fifth warship provided by GRSE in 2025 and the 115th warship constructed by the shipyard, with the ASW SWC being the 77th delivered to the Navy. Rear Admiral Gautam Marwaha, CSO (Tech), Eastern Naval Command, accepted the ASW SWC at the Chennai Port Trust. GRSE has already delivered four warships in 2025, including the Advanced Guided Missile Frigate Himgiri, the first two ASW SWCs Arnala and Androth, and the Survey Vessel (Large) Ikshak, all of which are now in service with the Navy. Anjadip’s delivery follows closely after Androth’s, showcasing GRSE’s efficiency in warship production. The warship is equipped with an indigenous 30 mm Naval Surface Gun, showcasing GRSE’s commitment to self-reliance in defense shipbuilding. The ASW SWCs are designed for sub-surface surveillance, search and attack missions, and coordinated anti-submarine operations with aircraft, armed with lightweight torpedoes and anti-submarine warfare rockets. Anjadip’s agility and maneuverability, with three water jets and a shallow draught of 2.7 meters, enable easy access to coastal waters for sub-surface threat detection. GRSE is currently working on building more warships, including advanced stealth frigates, ASW SWCs, a Survey Vessel (Large), and Next Generation Offshore Patrol Vessels, among others, with additional projects in the pipeline.
