Indian Navy’s INS Sindhukesari submarine has arrived in Colombo, Sri Lanka, for an operational turnaround, strengthening the maritime ties between the two nations. The visit aims to boost cooperation and operational coordination with the Sri Lanka Navy. INS Sindhukesari’s crew will engage in various programs organized by the Sri Lankan Navy during their stay.
The submarine’s visit follows the recent bilateral diving exercise, IN–SLN DIVEX 2026, held in Colombo, where both navies showcased enhanced operational synergy. The exercise focused on complex underwater operations, including deep-sea diving drills, to enhance interoperability and joint capabilities. Divers from both navies demonstrated technical proficiency and operational expertise during the exercise.
Apart from operational engagements, the exercise promoted camaraderie through joint activities like beach clean-ups, sports fixtures, and yoga sessions. INS Nireekshak’s Commanding Officer paid tribute at the IPKF Memorial, emphasizing the importance of sustained exchange of best practices between the Indian and Sri Lankan navies. The visit also saw the handover of BHISM cubes under India’s Aarogya Maitri initiative, enhancing disaster response and medical readiness.
