Indian Navy’s sail training ship INS Sudarshini has left the US city of Boston as part of the ongoing Lokayan 26 mission. The vessel is now en route to Ponta Delgada, Azores in Portugal. INS Sudarshini recently represented India at the SAIL 250 celebrations and the International Naval Review 250 during its stay in the US.

The ship actively participated in SAIL 250 events at various US ports including Norfolk, Baltimore, New York, and Boston. It engaged with dignitaries, Indian diaspora members, and international naval delegations, showcasing India’s maritime heritage and fostering maritime partnerships. The Ministry of Defence emphasized that INS Sudarshini continues to promote India’s maritime strength and goodwill globally.

India’s Consul General in Boston highlighted INS Sudarshini’s involvement in SAIL Boston 250, underscoring its significance in symbolizing India’s maritime traditions and naval professionalism. The Consulate mentioned a media briefing held during the Captain’s Reception aboard the ship, emphasizing its role in expanding bilateral maritime ties with the US.

The Consul General stressed the importance of INS Sudarshini’s participation in the 250th anniversary celebrations of US Independence, noting its unique status as the only Naval tall ship from Asia and the wider Indian Ocean Region. The vessel’s journey of five and a half months to the US East Coast for this event was also highlighted. Additionally, the Embassy of India in the US emphasized the ongoing defence engagement between India and the US, particularly through insightful discussions with a delegation from the US Army War College, Carlisle.
